    Hi,

kernel 3.x.y has no support for layer7. Layer7 filtreing can not work.

Therfore i asked Fulvio several times to give us back the kernel 2.x.y. No response til today. Please build a lobby for this and ask again and again.

    Hi Fulvio,

many thanks for your new version 3.0.0. In this version there are several optimized kernels. Is it possible for you to provide a 2.6 kernel this way? Many of us need the L7-filter missing in versions > beta16.

    Thanks in advance.

The “Immediately restart PPPoE and 3G Mobile” option on my Net Balancer page is set to “yes”.
I do not understand the code on the whole, but it looks like that more than one “helping hand in the background” tries to restart the lines or there is an unintendet loop or the “Immediately restart PPPoE and 3G Mobile” option is not logic itself and redundant.

My boxes are delivered preinstalled and the ppp lines are working a few seconds after the cables are connected. No start is necessary. With disabled failoverd my lines have the daily disconnect and are up again after a few milliseconds without intervention. So i think failoverd will work properly with “Immediately restart PPPoE and 3G Mobile” option set to “no”.

The more i think over this i ask me for what reason this option is at all.
    It is confusing.

I can not understand Fulvio’s hesitation on incorporating your patch into his code base too. In my test environment there was no false declaring at all. And i testet over weeks. By the adjustment of failoverd you have to bear in mind that sometimes the lines have a latency of more than 1 second. Smaler adjustments have false faulty declarations of course.
But this is not a cause of your patch.

Please be so kind and talk with Fulvio together about your patch and ask him what exactly is not fine with your code. I am sure you both will find a solution.

    Hello Atheling,

here are my experiences with your patch. Perhaps it helps to figure out what is wrong with failoverd.

My System: 1 line over ETH to a router
    3 lines direct over ppp

    – balancing does not work without the patch at all. Answer packages do not know where the origin is.

    – with patch: 3 ppp lines alone hang the whole system. 1 ETH line is necessary.

    – with patch: with disabled failoverd in GUI 1eth + 3 ppp lines work fine.
Only ipsec connections are scrambeld and have to be send to one dedicated line by balancing rules. QoS needs very much cpu time but works perfectly. Tested with videostreaming bound to one line and as preferred service.

-with patch and failoverd enabled in GUI and 1eth+3ppp lines: the ppp lines are destroyed
after the daily disconnect. As i could see the remote station gets repeating signals to synchronise although the line is up and running. After a while the modem/remote station tilts. Only resetting of the modems bring the ppp lines up again.

-Test environment with patch and failoverd enabled an two eth lines:
    All works fine !!
Log files show that some code is not able to fetch the faulty device name and ip.
This is especially for the recover message.

beta14: The changes in failoverd and fw_initrules do not influence the patch code. Patching by hand from the .rej files should work. I will test this in production environment.

    Hello ppalias,
i don’t think to have such certain nics because they are from the same vendor and specially build for this board. The extra nic which causes my frustation has a similar chipset and use the same module.
Further tests show an irregular appearence of the ‘INIT: id “7” respawning …’ message again. Stress tests with heavy downloads results in a performance loss of 80% after a while.
So i asked my distributor and the vendor Jetway if there is a way to solve the irq conflict.
Report follows as soon as i get an answer.

    Hello ppalias,

    thank you for responding.

No it is not possible to assign IRQs manually.

It is definitely a resource conflict. With strike matches in my eyes and a lot of coffee i think i found a way to get things working.

At first i tried several other mobo’s and recognized that the behavior of the same kind of mobo’s was different. At a deeper look i found two different series with the same name.

    J7F5M1G5-VHE-LF and J7F5M1G5-VHE-PB.

LF shows the discribed behavior. PB was much harder. In the following i refer to the PB series board.

After installing the 3-giga-lan daughterboard and the riserboard nic nothing happens when switching on the machine. Only the fans whirl the air. The machine refuses to boot. This text is very short in comparision to the time i tryed to google for hints. f. e. : jetway j7f5 interrupt
At the Jetway site there was a BIOS update which sounds fine:

    http://www.jetway.com.tw/jw/download_show.asp

    BIOS /DOS 05 512KB

1.Change BIOS for PCI Riser Card.
2.Resolve some USB Storages can not start.
    2008-9-10

This update was especialy for the LF. But: no risk no fun …..

After updating a clear cmos is necessary. A little wonder happens, the POST beeps and the machine boots into beta13. A cat /proc/interrupts shows that only the onboard and daughterboard nics are recognized properly. Lspci ends up with one unknown ethernet pci device.

To make the cmos know about the missing information i unpluged the daughterboard and start again. The second wonder: After the POST beep
the nics PXE handshake appears and the cmos knows the nic.

The complete machine boots now properly into beta13:

So far so good. In comparison to this my J7F2 boards assign nearly one irq for each device. Is there something serious when two ETHs share one irq?

For testing i gave ETH04 to my desktop and ETH03 with DHCP to my DSL router. Default Gateway was set automaticaly behind the curtain.
ETH03 pulled into the NAT box and and a lightning fast Gateway was build.

Can i expext this speed when all nics are on and four of them are balancing the WAN traffic? Or can i expext serious issues due to the resource sharing? Or is there a trick to persuade the APIC to spend more IRQs?

    Regard

    Yes, i have rebooted.

The properly patched files are in /Database/custom. But for some reason the pre-boot-script does not copy the files.

    for file in /Database/custom/*
    do
    cp ${file} /root/kerbynet.cgi/scripts/
    done

Or are they overridden later with the original one’s?

Where can i find the original files in the /Database?
Perhaps it helps to copy the patched files there?
