I’ve been using ZS in a virtual environment and on x86 mini pc hardware with great success. I’m now looking to try the suggested hardware of the APU2c2 or even the ALIX range.

Can anyone offer some advice on issues or bugs running the most recent ZS release on these hardware platforms? My only other addition to the boards will be a WiFi module which I presume I would add via the mPCIE port.

    Cheers.

    Hi,
definitelly avoid ALIX boards, too slow and too few RAM. APU and APU2 are great, I haven’t tried APU3 yet but I’m very confident will be suitable for that job. You can find wifi modules on mPCI to install inside. My suggestion, use a SSD drive

    Hi,
I have both, an ALIX and an APU. Alix is at the end of life, and it will struggle with torrents and and big load. Also speed is 100M that may be ok on most connections. I am not sure about newer then 2.4G cards. Also is hard to find adaptors to write the SD card for ALIX.

ZS doesn’t come with all drivers for these little devices so you may need some additional work.

I compiled all drivers, (or almost) for APU2 ( I have an apu2c4) I also did some mods as a hobby. ( added 8 LEDs )

    I used a 16g msata ssd + one vle200 ( 2.4G N ) and one vle600 ( 5G AC )

Unless u want to play around and you get an alix for cheap I would recommend APU2.
APU1 may be ok, I just don’t have experience with it.

    Thanks iulyb,

I’ve decided to go with the APU2c2. In my experience I’ve never seem ZS memory usage over 1GB, have you ever seen more usage than 2GB on your APU2c4?

So are just LED and GPIO drivers missing in ZS3.7.1?

Does the wle200 work without mods?

Do you find the APU2 stable?

Also, I’ve just used USB to boot ZS in a small PC. Considering ZS runs in memory do you see any performance (or other benefit) installing ZS to mSATA in the APU instead of USB?

    Cheers.

    Nope ( Used RAM 601.0 MB (17.0%) 337.0 MB (9.5%) 192.0 MB (5.4%) )

I also use 32 bits kernel so max 3.2G for me, no pint for 64, that will use more memory.

also pcspeeker and i2c. I doubt you will need i2c

yes but can get only N on 2.4G.

Yes. However i added small fan that lower temperature to 48. On normal one u will have around 55. That is still ok.

In theory should not be a big difference.
