We have been using ZS going on 1 year now, but strictly for QOS/shaping only; we don’t use the portal, or other administrative apps.

IT’S AWESOME! It’s been loaded on recycled servers, and old desktops, but two servers were just purchased in February for dedicated use. The server is a Dell PE 1955 with Intel Quad PT NICs. It’s a single proc (dual core 3.0ghz) with 4gb of mem, and 2x143GB disks.

We are shaping a 100MB MetroE connection, the 2nd server is a backup for another connection:

top - 09:57:27 up 117 days, 1:28, 1 user, load average: 2.16, 1.97, 1.88
Tasks: 78 total, 3 running, 74 sleeping, 0 stopped, 1 zombie
Cpu(s): 19.3% user, 30.4% system, 0.0% nice, 50.2% idle, 0.2% IO-wait
Mem: 3365764k total, 365264k used, 3000500k free, 95428k buffers
Swap: 131064k total, 0k used, 131064k free, 198592k cached

It works very well, and we don’t have any problems with it. I’m running off of the ISO and using the local storage for the database. During the school year, we’re pushing about 90MB incoming, and 60MB outgoing.

I’m sure the servers we are using are overkill for the connection speeds, and the capabilities we’re using in ZS, but we’re going to have the servers for 4 years now, so they need to be sized for all of the upcoming releases!

Regards,
G
